Thanks for the memories...8-13-06 Hello Committee, If you can read this message, congratulations, you have survived the reunion. For your information John O'Neal is alive and well. He had replied to my routine committee communications to let us know he would not be attending, but for some reason it wasn't getting back to me. So, just wanted to let you know he is OK and he is sorry he missed it and hoped everybody had a good time. Chic
8-13-06 8-13-06 Hi Chic Thanks for the update on John O. I was looking forward to seeing him at the reunion. Hopefully, we'll both make the next one. You did an absolutely terrific job in organizing and coordinating the reunion. Everyone I talked with had a great time and they plan to come to the next one. Count me in and let me know when you start getting organized for the 50th. I'll do what I can depending on where we are at the time, but I will try to plan around some the earlier meetings this time. Thanks for all of your efforts. Bill Thurman 8-13-06 Howdy Fellow Monsoons, What a GREAT evening. I just want to thank all of you who worked so hard to make Friday night and Saturday such a memorable time. To renew old friendships and see friends, some for the first time in 44 years, was just awesome. Many of us spent 13 years in school together. Even if it was a long time ago, last night brought back so many great memories. I have often thought back about the years at Mayfair as being 4 years that made a tremendous impact on my life. I told Coach Soth that he will never know, nor will I ever be able to repay him for what he did for me. To Chic and the class of '61 THANKS for including us. I really hope that for your 50th we can do this again. I truly wish that everyone enjoyed the reunion and much as I did. I will gladly give of my time to make this happen again in 5 years. The very best to all of you. Jim Edwards '62 8-14-06
Yo Chic...... Just had to email you to say again what a great job you did
on the reunion this last week-end. Pat and I agree it was even better
than the 40th in Palm Springs, and THAT was a blast too.... In case I
don't get ahold of all the others, tell them for Pat and I
"Thanks again for the Memories"! Is the 50th going to be at a
NICE rest home????
8-14-06 Hi Chick, I just wanted to thank you on the great job you did. It's not easy and it's a lot of work. It couldn't of gone any better. The golf I had with you and Bruce was the best day I ever had and I thank you for that. Again thanks. I'll call you and Bruce next month so we can get together. Jim Miller 8-14-06 I just wanted to say ONE MORE TIME how much fun Paul and I had this last weekend at the reunion! We know how much time you put into the planning process and it showed. You have now set a "standard" for future reunions! HaHa. I guess Paul and I are beginning to show our age though since BOTH of us slept on the plane coming home. We were both so tired (wonder why! HaHa). I didn't keep some of your e-mails which you had forwarded on to me so I don't have Arlene Ozanian's e-mail address. I wanted to let her know how pleased everyone was with the food selection at the dinner party. I heard nothing but phrase. She was always a great organizer and a person you could always rely on to get a job done and get it done right. She did a marvelous job! I know Arlene and Clarene did the table decorations PLUS and the ball room was beautiful. I heard over and over again how pleased people were the Class of 1961 decided to include the classes of 1962, 63 and 64. I agree. It was great seeing people I haven't seen in years and who I would never get the chance to see unless it was in a situation like this..... these are just a few of my thoughts I wanted to pass on to you Chic! Kisses and Hugs to you and Ellen! Lv Pix and Paul Whitaker 8-14-06 I want to THANK YOU and the COMMITTEE for the wonderful reunion, the laughter, the tears, remembering all the years, How sweet the memories. What a good looking class of people. I know how hard you all worked and know that you are all very special people and what a blessing to have gone to school with each of you to touch your hands and hearts with smiles. How BLESSED AM I. I would never change anything in my life, a sentiment not often heard, but that is how I feel about this journey I have made. And I am looking forward to being there for the next reunion, be it anywhere, I'll be there. Lets take a 14 day cruise to Alaska with Denali stops. LOL Thank you and a safe journey to each of you until we meet again.
LOVE TO YOU ALL, 45th Reunion short look back Here ye, here ye, here ye, The Mayfair High School Class of 1961's 45th Reunion is now over. The results, everyone, every class had such a good time it is demanded the 61's 50th Reunion be held and in the same manner. From me, I say it was absolutely FANTASTIC. Even the mayor of Lakewood issued a proclamation regarding the class of 1961 and its uniqueness. I found this out Sat. afternoon while Bill & Carole Thurman were stuffing the envelopes for each person. A side note to this, when I read who signed it I was surprised as it was signed Larry Van Nostran, Mayor of Lakewood. The surprise was Larry happens to be my cousin. Surprise, Surprise. Later Chic told me Larry had told him we were cousins, but Chic had not mentioned it to me. The Fri. night Socializer was great. Hostested by Paul Whitaker-61 and his lovely wife Pixie Walton Whitaker-63... it was great. They thought of something we had not at our 40th, stick-on name tags. All night, everyone was going around almost putting their faces on other's chests in order to read the names. We are older and BLINDER (I have 1 pair of glasses with 3 different lenses), but nothing has diminished our happiness and our funny bones. I was asked hundreds of times, who is that and the askers hand/arm pointing. A lot of the time the person was too far, so I'd go look and find out. No one was embarrassed because the same thing happened to them. Gary Johnson and a few others kept the guessing game up by only putting their first name and year of graduation. Gary being Gary, had additional fun by not putting 61 but 1927. One new, her very first Reunion had been a very good friend in my class. Did I recognize her? No! She was at a table with many others from '61, but I still did not. Eventually away from the table, I asked Sherry Dingwell Spurlock, "Is La Verne here?" Sherry say, "Yeah at the back table." So I rushed back, but this time saw La Verne's profile (La Verne Warner Skinner), whereas before I saw here straight on, and recognized her. We had a great personal Reunion from then on. We had 5 teachers attend. One was a surprise late guest. Coach Willis and his wife (they were at our 40th and had planned coming for 5 years, just needed the date), Coach Soth, Mr. Paul Dearth (World history), Mrs. Jeanne Staudigel (Music) and the surprise, Miss Shirley Stayton (Girls P.E.). In spite of the airline panic which I think (know of 1) caused 2 to stay home, we had grads from all over the country. Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington, Oregon, just to name a few out of CA states. I have yet to write down all the States, that will be coming as I help prepare the Reunion books that for the first time will be on-line on our class of '61 web site. Barry Witt has been handling the site since he first put it up for us in 2000. If you do not know of our web site but want to check it out the address is www.mayfair61.com . So folks, especially you, who for one reason or another could not make it, I hope you'll plan to come in 2011 for our 50th. It will take us a while to get the book on line however, if you have never visited the web site, please do as Barry has put much more on it since 2001 and will be adding more as it comes in. All who took pictures at the 45th Reunion are asked to send the pictures to Barry so that, as he did with our 40th, he can load them onto the web site for all to view. If the pictures are viewable, send them. As I get things back together in my house, which looks as if a cyclone went through, I'll get my few (new camera bought Thursday, bad batteries) pictures sent, too. For all who missed coming, I am truly sorry, we honestly had a great Reunion. ********************************************************* VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE
Everyone, It is Really Necessary that you keep me informed as to how to
reach you. We either have or are (hopefully) going to within the next 4
years retire. With that often comes moving, with moving often a change of
e-mail address. OR if you have none now, you may get one so let me know
of ANY CHANGES OR ADDITIONS. ********************************************************* Love to all, Sandee Pope Totten 8-15-06
Barry,
Warmest Regards,
Bruce Weiler 8-15-06 Hi Chick,
Thanks for a wonderful weekend it was great, sharon,Laverne, Ownie and I
had a ball.
Let us know, Awsome job DEAR CHIC, YOU DID AN AWSOME JOB ON THE REUNION. I KNOW EVERYONE APPRECIATED ALL YOU DID ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE COMMITTEE, BUT YOU WERE OUR LEADER AND THE SPIRIT OF THE WHOLE THING. PHIL BURNEY DID A FABULOUS JOB AND EVERYTHING RAN SMOOTHLY. I SENT MR. WITT 57 PICTURES AND THEY SHOULD BE ON THE INTERNET, TOO BAD NO NAMES BUT PEOPLE CAN TRY TO GUESS WHO THEY ARE LOOKING AT. AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK. THE HARDEST JOB IS TRYING TO FIND PEOPLE AND YOU DID GOOD.
THANKS, Thanks
What a great job you did putting all of this together for us!! All of the
memorabilia from Marilee Mifflin was unbelievable!! Comments To THE COMMITTEE: Kudos! Bravo for a job well done, it was a grand time, it was a great time, gee it was swell. Thanks for bringing us all together. Cannot fathom what you will do for an encore. To my classmates: I tried to squeeze in the meet n greets, hellos, how ya doin', and wassups. Do I know you? Should I know you? Now I remember, you look the same, well...maybe...kinda...sorta...hmm. Attempted the vis-a-vis, tete-a-tete, in your face, up close and personal, just folksing chit chat, so not; so many people so little time. To those I missed: Forgive me, I old lady now. Paulette Dagampat Olson, Class of '62 Re. Table pictures I'm really sorry I missed the event, but I think the website and photos are fabulous. My brother John, who passed away 15-years ago, was part of the Class of '61 (so I remember a lot of his friends). And seeing some of the Class of '62 names sure brought back memories. Amazing where the years have gone. If I can do anything for another of these events... whenever, just let me know. And if you are ever near Lakewood City Hall, drop by for a cup of coffee! Howard Chambers Table pictures John Surlow wrote: '62 Grads,Pictures by tables are posted at http://www.mayfair61.com With all the classes it took a while to figure out who was there from the '62 class and where they were. Mainly spread out! I bet you missed some people you would have liked to see. If your looking for pictures of individuals, whom you may not have seen, you can use the table number key I fixed up below from looking at names in our final yearbook. (I'm a lousy typist so I parsed the names out of the captions and didn't correct much. Let me know if someone wants a list for the other classes.)
