MHS Speech Team Victors Over Bucs
Another victory over rival Bellflower High School was achieved, this time in the area of oratory. The Mayfair High Speech Team won 6 out of 8 events in this contest to be the recipients of the Speech Perpetual Trophy in the first annual "MHS-BHS Forensic Tournament".
It was MHS all the way in debate with the topic "Resolved that the United Nations should be significantly strengthened". Bill Thurman and Barry Witt on one team and Jim Emett and Carter Sims on another were victorious in both debates.
More trophies were won by four out of the six Mayfair contestants in the individual events. Pam Yocam, with an original speech on Love, won in Original Poetry. Impromptu was won by Marilee Mifflin with the topic Equality. Vivian Reames won Oratorical Interp. with a speech on Women's Rights. A humorous reading of Lady Godiva brought victory to Sue Greene in Humorous Interpretation.
Nosed out by one point was Bill Blakenborough in Dramatic Interpretation. Bellflower also won in Extemporaneous Speaking.
